Convection vs Conduction Vaporizers _ Vaping 101 Educational Video Series

Now, one of the most basic principles when it comes to herb vaping, 00:00:17.040 --> 00:00:20.910 is the notion of Conduction versus Convection Vaping. Now, when we talk about 00:00:20.910 --> 00:00:25.110 conduction and convection, the most simple example I can think about- ovens. 00:00:25.110 --> 00:00:28.649 So, you've got a conduction oven, it's basically just like an old-style gas 00:00:28.649 --> 00:00:31.739 oven with an element in the top, you're gonna make sure that you're keeping an 00:00:31.739 --> 00:00:35.070 eye on with inside so that it's not burning. When you've got a convection 00:00:35.070 --> 00:00:39.510 oven, so the more new and modern ovens that a fan form style, you know that's not 00:00:39.510 --> 00:00:42.540 anywhere near as much of a risk of things catching on fire, because it's 00:00:42.540 --> 00:00:46.020 just the air that's being injured there's no singular heat element that's 00:00:46.020 --> 00:00:49.170 helping to heat the content, it's just the whole oven moving around 00:00:49.170 --> 00:00:55.020 constantly. So, it helps to deliver a lot more even heating sort of output. We've 00:00:55.020 --> 00:00:58.680 had many experiences with vaporizers, so conduction vaporizers 00:00:58.680 --> 00:01:03.810 often leave sort of hot spots and can end up in combustion, so really not what 00:01:03.810 --> 00:01:06.600 people are looking for when you switch to vaping. So, when we talk about 00:01:06.600 --> 00:01:09.960 combustion, you sort of think of a traditional pipe. So you have sort of a 00:01:09.960 --> 00:01:13.950 material on the inside, like a tobacco or a heavy material, you hit that with the 00:01:13.950 --> 00:01:17.850 lighter and it's just combusting. So, it's heating that plant material up to about 00:01:17.850 --> 00:01:22.049 300/400 degrees Celsius and what that's doing is even though if it's not 00:01:22.049 --> 00:01:25.710 radioactive, or won't cause any long-term bronchial effects for cancer or anything 00:01:25.710 --> 00:01:29.340 like that. In the short term, it leaves you short of breath, can raise your heart 00:01:29.340 --> 00:01:32.159 rate and it's just not what we're looking for when we look at a good herb 00:01:32.159 --> 00:01:37.829 vaporizer. So some herb vaporizers like the ALD Amaze WOW, do utilize a conduction 00:01:37.829 --> 00:01:41.009 vaping. So, the reason they do this, is because this is more of a budget 00:01:41.009 --> 00:01:45.329 entry-level vaporizer. So, it's still a good device, but it cost a lot more money 00:01:45.329 --> 00:01:49.560 to put a convection heater into a vaporizer, because then you're looking at 00:01:49.560 --> 00:01:53.159 heating all of the air that's going in, instead of just heating a single little 00:01:53.159 --> 00:01:56.999 element that's helping sort of --- vapor. So, if we look inside the chamber 00:01:56.999 --> 00:02:00.450 of the ALD Amaze WOW, it's got a single ceramic plate so you 00:02:00.450 --> 00:02:04.319 load your herbs onto that, an embedded heating on it, helps to heat that ceramic 00:02:04.319 --> 00:02:07.730 and so as you're taking sort of air through and inside 00:02:07.730 --> 00:02:12.050 it will convert that into vapor, but obviously, if you have it up too high and 00:02:12.050 --> 00:02:15.620 temperature's too high, it can turn the herb on the inside black, so it's not 00:02:15.620 --> 00:02:19.220 going to combust it, but it gets very near to that space and it can definitely 00:02:19.220 --> 00:02:24.260 affect the flavor. So, there's, what the remedy is to that is, they include these 00:02:24.260 --> 00:02:28.490 conduction pods which are also referred to as dosing capsules, dosing pods, 00:02:28.490 --> 00:02:33.200 whatever you'd like. So, in that case it's not actually touching the chamber, so the 00:02:33.200 --> 00:02:36.590 heated element isn't in contact with the herbs, that comes into contact with this 00:02:36.590 --> 00:02:41.180 basket, which has the herbs inside of it. So, there's sort of a middleman, if you'd 00:02:41.180 --> 00:02:45.170 like to think of it like that, between the herb and the heating element. So, that 00:02:45.170 --> 00:02:48.500 helps to sort of, get you bit more flavors in vapor, but it's definitely not 00:02:48.500 --> 00:02:52.160 going to be as much visible vapor, as the traditional conduction vape. So, when we 00:02:52.160 --> 00:02:55.670 look at the Haze, the Haze is also a hybrid conduction- convection vaporizer. 00:02:55.670 --> 00:03:00.800 It's got these conduction baskets, that go on the inside, that are sort of 00:03:00.800 --> 00:03:04.820 serrated, around the middle, so that there is contact between the chamber and the 00:03:04.820 --> 00:03:09.830 herb. They also included these convection baskets, that are solid. So, there's just a 00:03:09.830 --> 00:03:12.860 solid bit of stainless steel mesh. There's absolutely no contact between 00:03:12.860 --> 00:03:17.030 herb and chamber and as I said the vapor you're getting is a bit less visible 00:03:17.030 --> 00:03:21.440 but a lot more flavorsome and when we're looking at full convection vaporizers 00:03:21.440 --> 00:03:25.040 like the Flowermate Swift Pro and the Volcano Digit Desktop vaporizer, 00:03:25.040 --> 00:03:29.630 as a bit more money involved, but there's also a lot more benefits. So, the flavor 00:03:29.630 --> 00:03:33.170 you're gonna be getting out of these devices is paramount compared to these 00:03:33.170 --> 00:03:37.940 two. So, with the Swift Pro for example, as you're in taking air through the bottom, 00:03:37.940 --> 00:03:41.870 The air is being directly heated by the heating element on the inside, but that 00:03:41.870 --> 00:03:45.260 heating element does not make any contact with the chamber. So, the heat 00:03:45.260 --> 00:03:49.610 inside that chamber, is actually so low, you can have all these interchangeable 00:03:49.610 --> 00:03:53.060 walls in there at the same time. So, these ones are made of wood and now you know 00:03:53.060 --> 00:03:56.480 if wood was being heated up to 200 300 degrees obviously, didn't combust, 00:03:56.480 --> 00:04:01.459 with this, all it does is add a subtly sweet flavour to the vapor path. Now, with the 00:04:01.459 --> 00:04:06.290 Volcano Digit Desktop vape, that runs off a full convection heating style. You can 00:04:06.290 --> 00:04:09.230 actually heat the device up to the required temperature for vaporization 00:04:09.230 --> 00:04:13.370 before you even introduce the herbs into the mix.
