I wanna point out one thing every harley
00:00:03.110 00:00:03.120 should have and it's actually a stupid
00:00:06.860 00:00:06.870 thing it's simple but that right there
00:00:09.680 00:00:09.690 temperature gauge on the oil like if
00:00:12.650 00:00:12.660 it's getting too hot because this is
00:00:13.970 00:00:13.980 basically an air-cooled motor and if
00:00:16.880 00:00:16.890 your oil starts breaking down its cause
00:00:19.189 00:00:19.199 it high heat that's what happens
00:00:20.960 00:00:20.970 so you want to temperature gauge on your
00:00:22.939 00:00:22.949 oil and here's I'll tell you another
00:00:26.120 00:00:26.130 problem and a lot of people do is they
00:00:28.990 00:00:29.000 fill this up too much and what you
00:00:31.970 00:00:31.980 should go probably can't see it on here
00:00:34.850 00:00:34.860 - well there's two lines there's an add
00:00:38.119 00:00:38.129 line and there's a fill line you
00:00:41.030 00:00:41.040 shouldn't put the oil up to the top of
00:00:43.340 00:00:43.350 the full line because as this engine
00:00:45.170 00:00:45.180 heats up it actually goes up the oil
00:00:47.450 00:00:47.460 expands a little bit more and what
00:00:50.450 00:00:50.460 happens is on this bike on all the
00:00:53.090 00:00:53.100 Harley's you'll see here - because I got
00:00:55.790 00:00:55.800 something right down there blow by it
00:00:58.670 00:00:58.680 comes in it what happens is you get
00:01:01.760 00:01:01.770 builds up crankcase pressure and because
00:01:05.840 00:01:05.850 of the oil level and then you get blow
00:01:08.539 00:01:08.549 by and it drips out oil over here it can
00:01:11.300 00:01:11.310 actually clog up your air cleaner that
00:01:13.100 00:01:13.110 way now the solution is just like I said
00:01:16.310 00:01:16.320 a lot of people fill this up to the very
00:01:19.370 00:01:19.380 top you know of the fill mark on a fill
00:01:22.880 00:01:22.890 one not the top of this or anything I'm
00:01:24.890 00:01:24.900 just saying of the fill line now by the
00:01:26.990 00:01:27.000 book that's correct
00:01:28.640 00:01:28.650 but you should have it a little bit
00:01:30.560 00:01:30.570 below the high point of the full line
00:01:33.020 00:01:33.030 you should have it between the ad level
00:01:34.700 00:01:34.710 and the fill hole level right between
00:01:37.160 00:01:37.170 those two marks and as you use it you'll
00:01:39.950 00:01:39.960 notice it does go up to the full line
00:01:42.069 00:01:42.079 the other thing is a lot of people use
00:01:45.980 00:01:45.990 2050 oil and bikes Harley I think you
00:01:50.090 00:01:50.100 should use 50 weight or 60 weight
00:01:52.160 00:01:52.170 straight and let 2050s good if it's like
00:01:55.039 00:01:55.049 really really cold out but you know most
00:01:58.010 00:01:58.020 people aren't riding bike in the cold
00:01:59.870 00:01:59.880 weather riding it in hot weather so 2050
00:02:02.569 00:02:02.579 is not what you want to use you want to
00:02:04.880 00:02:04.890 be straight 50 weight or straight 60
00:02:07.160 00:02:07.170 weight and you'll eliminate a lot of
00:02:09.589 00:02:09.599 that blow by - and another thing
00:02:13.370 00:02:13.380 I got like a little little ass cheap oil
00:02:15.800 00:02:15.810 cooler on here and I actually got that
00:02:19.190 00:02:19.200 from Kennedy's custom motorcycles down
00:02:21.620 00:02:21.630 in California back and god I used to do
00:02:24.500 00:02:24.510 all the custom bikes he was there at the
00:02:26.210 00:02:26.220 time but he never seen him he's always
00:02:27.650 00:02:27.660 in the back man he moved out to Arizona
00:02:29.330 00:02:29.340 but the you know these guys knew this to
00:02:32.870 00:02:32.880 with the bikes they said all she
00:02:34.670 00:02:34.680 need is this little cooler you don't
00:02:36.230 00:02:36.240 need nothing fancy as long as you got
00:02:38.900 00:02:38.910 something on there this is like I'm
00:02:40.910 00:02:40.920 about 15 dollar cooler and instead of
00:02:44.449 00:02:44.459 using I use a hydraulic pressure line
00:02:50.180 00:02:50.190 for the hoses I don't even used just
00:02:52.220 00:02:52.230 rubber oil lines they used hydraulic
00:02:55.600 00:02:55.610 tractor pressure hose it's like really
00:02:59.330 00:02:59.340 good in other words I never break
00:03:01.580 00:03:01.590 it in a million years it should hold up
00:03:03.229 00:03:03.239 really good I don't worry about getting
00:03:04.850 00:03:04.860 that steel braided stuff you know
00:03:07.180 00:03:07.190 anodized colored stuff and could be
00:03:10.460 00:03:10.470 black hose but I don't use standard
00:03:12.380 00:03:12.390 rubber hose he used a hydraulic tractor
00:03:16.160 00:03:16.170 hose it's like four you know high
00:03:18.560 00:03:18.570 pressure it'll hold up a long time but
00:03:21.620 00:03:21.630 also you need is this little oil cooler
00:03:23.900 00:03:23.910 you don't need nothing heavy-duty it's
00:03:26.150 00:03:26.160 got a bracket on there with a couple
00:03:27.650 00:03:27.660 bolts on it really solid as a matter of
00:03:30.560 00:03:30.570 fact it's bolted and glued in here like
00:03:33.530 00:03:33.540 it has Gorilla Glue holding it together
00:03:36.800 00:03:36.810 so this thing is in your solid don't it
00:03:39.650 00:03:39.660 won't come down one way or together so
00:03:42.350 00:03:42.360 but that's an important little thing on
00:03:44.750 00:03:44.760 every Harley because what you got going
00:03:47.420 00:03:47.430 here is air cooled right it's air cooled
00:03:50.690 00:03:50.700 motor and what's the enemy of air cooled
00:03:52.640 00:03:52.650 motors heat so you know you want to keep
00:03:55.850 00:03:55.860 that oil just a little cooler you don't
00:03:57.620 00:03:57.630 want to have it too cool and it got it
00:04:00.350 00:04:00.360 something simple like this no
00:04:01.970 00:04:01.980 thermostatic control that's just fine
00:04:03.800 00:04:03.810 the other thing is you want to watch
00:04:05.930 00:04:05.940 your oil temperature then when you're
00:04:08.150 00:04:08.160 using straight oil straight 50 weight I
00:04:11.660 00:04:11.670 mean you can use twenty fifty when it's
00:04:13.670 00:04:13.680 cooler out but most the time people
00:04:14.900 00:04:14.910 using the bikes in summer ninety degrees
00:04:17.090 00:04:17.100 out and all that kind of see it 95
00:04:18.920 00:04:18.930 degrees you want to use straight 50
00:04:21.380 00:04:21.390 weight and you know
00:04:25.030 00:04:25.040 keep the bag not totally totally full
00:04:27.750 00:04:27.760 and you know
00:04:59.470 00:04:59.480 the other thing is to you draining this
00:05:03.890 00:05:03.900 oil out I don't I use a suction pump and
00:05:08.240 00:05:08.250 take it out of this side I don't use
00:05:10.010 00:05:10.020 that hose on the other side I always use
00:05:12.680 00:05:12.690 a suction pump and you get more of your
00:05:15.260 00:05:15.270 oil out there where you get all the
00:05:16.580 00:05:16.590 metal shavings or whatever's in the car
00:05:18.290 00:05:18.300 but on the bottom you get it out of
00:05:19.640 00:05:19.650 there a lot better so but you know
00:05:22.460 00:05:22.470 maintenance will keep these bikes going
00:05:24.200 00:05:24.210 a lot long longer
00:05:25.430 00:05:25.440 I like these older now they're old back
00:05:28.250 00:05:28.260 when I got this is a new design you
00:05:30.170 00:05:30.180 already used to have the iron had
00:05:32.320 00:05:32.330 Sportsters and shovel heads and the Evo
00:05:35.420 00:05:35.430 was a new design actually I'm going to
00:05:36.980 00:05:36.990 tell you the truth I think the Evo is
00:05:38.420 00:05:38.430 definitely the best stuff going it
00:05:40.940 00:05:40.950 definitely and you notice twin-cam big
00:05:45.110 00:05:45.120 you know the new ones at the twin cams i
00:05:47.210 00:05:47.220 think there's too many problems with
00:05:48.440 00:05:48.450 them actually it's turning out that the
00:05:50.300 00:05:50.310 Sportsters that were considered not the
00:05:52.670 00:05:52.680 best things around or turning out to be
00:05:54.530 00:05:54.540 the better ones now there's a lot less
00:05:57.470 00:05:57.480 you can go wrong with a maxi to
00:05:59.240 00:05:59.250 tell you the truth there's only a couple
00:06:00.260 00:06:00.270 things that this bike had a couple flaws
00:06:03.050 00:06:03.060 with but the aftermarket fix them up and
00:06:05.950 00:06:05.960 top-end on these bikes are usually good
00:06:08.450 00:06:08.460 for a hundred thousand miles no problem
00:06:10.220 00:06:10.230 if you take care of so it's really
00:06:12.440 00:06:12.450 practical
