all right YouTube we're going to replace
00:00:11.790 00:00:11.800 a circulator
00:00:12.880 00:00:12.890 today in fact we're going to
00:00:15.440 00:00:15.450 this circulator pump so this pump for a
00:00:19.250 00:00:19.260 little while has had bearing noise and
00:00:21.170 00:00:21.180 it's definitely sounded like it was
00:00:22.490 00:00:22.500 failing so I'm gonna swap it out today
00:00:24.019 00:00:24.029 and I'll show you how so to do this job
00:00:26.540 00:00:26.550 we're gonna need a few tools I've laid
00:00:28.970 00:00:28.980 out and they are right here so we've got
00:00:33.770 00:00:33.780 a towel some wrenches couple of
00:00:35.450 00:00:35.460 screwdrivers and a pair of wire cutters
00:00:37.460 00:00:37.470 so I'll take you through what you use
00:00:39.500 00:00:39.510 each of these for the pump that we're
00:00:42.500 00:00:42.510 going to install today and replace the
00:00:44.299 00:00:44.309 existing one is with this unit this is a
00:00:47.510 00:00:47.520 tako three-speed ECM pump and what that
00:00:50.600 00:00:50.610 means is electronically commutated motor
00:00:53.000 00:00:53.010 and all it really means is a new style
00:00:55.520 00:00:55.530 of motor and no longer uses traditional
00:00:58.700 00:00:58.710 I guess you'd say like magnetic brushes
00:01:01.160 00:01:01.170 so these save a lot of power they're
00:01:03.050 00:01:03.060 supposed to be the future I hope they
00:01:04.399 00:01:04.409 last as long and this pump actually is
00:01:07.160 00:01:07.170 kind of unique and I'll pull this over
00:01:09.490 00:01:09.500 take a look at the top so this actually
00:01:12.289 00:01:12.299 has four bolt holes on it and what's
00:01:14.929 00:01:14.939 pretty neat about this is depending on
00:01:16.550 00:01:16.560 your installation you can have the pump
00:01:18.980 00:01:18.990 rotated this way well that way so
00:01:22.219 00:01:22.229 sometimes you need to have a pump in a
00:01:24.410 00:01:24.420 different configuration so tako makes
00:01:26.749 00:01:26.759 this pump and it's fairly universal so
00:01:30.440 00:01:30.450 if you're going to buy one pump this is
00:01:31.760 00:01:31.770 a good one in addition if you look
00:01:34.760 00:01:34.770 closely here you're gonna notice that
00:01:36.699 00:01:36.709 there is a low medium and high zoom in
00:01:41.889 00:01:41.899 low medium and high on this and that's
00:01:44.959 00:01:44.969 how you can actually dial in the speed
00:01:46.279 00:01:46.289 so you can get it exactly how you want
00:01:47.989 00:01:47.999 it and actually one other thing I should
00:01:49.910 00:01:49.920 point out too if you notice that little
00:01:51.980 00:01:51.990 thing that says status that's actually
00:01:53.959 00:01:53.969 an LED so sometimes these pumps are
00:01:55.999 00:01:56.009 actually so quiet you can hardly hear
00:01:57.529 00:01:57.539 them running so it's very important to
00:02:00.019 00:02:00.029 have that light and actually if you look
00:02:01.039 00:02:01.049 at the picture here you can see that LED
00:02:02.690 00:02:02.700 in addition in the box you also get
00:02:05.419 00:02:05.429 obviously instructions you get all rings
00:02:09.320 00:02:09.330 and the last piece you get is this
00:02:11.480 00:02:11.490 little check valve and this little check
00:02:13.400 00:02:13.410 valve will actually get installed into
00:02:14.870 00:02:14.880 the pump and I'll show that in a minute
00:02:15.980 00:02:15.990 so talk about these o-rings for a second
00:02:18.949 00:02:18.959 when you go to supply houses a lot of
00:02:21.949 00:02:21.959 professional plumbers do not like these
00:02:23.420 00:02:23.430 o-rings and they're actually pretty neat
00:02:25.399 00:02:25.409 they sit directly into the
00:02:28.890 00:02:28.900 grove and push them in there a little
00:02:31.080 00:02:31.090 bit and take those directions
00:02:35.190 00:02:35.200 specifically say do not use any other
00:02:37.800 00:02:37.810 kind of sealant or any other kind of
00:02:41.339 00:02:41.349 oring
00:02:41.850 00:02:41.860 so traditionally plumbers like to use
00:02:44.130 00:02:44.140 the large square sealing pads and I
00:02:47.399 00:02:47.409 think that you see that all the time so
00:02:49.649 00:02:49.659 the only comment about that is that
00:02:50.940 00:02:50.950 these directions specifically say not to
00:02:53.849 00:02:53.859 do that
00:02:54.390 00:02:54.400 they say the warranty is voided if you
00:02:56.039 00:02:56.049 use any other roll ring except for that
00:02:57.839 00:02:57.849 one so I'm not saying it's right or
00:03:00.270 00:03:00.280 wrong I'm just telling you what it says
00:03:01.500 00:03:01.510 so let's move on so on my particular
00:03:03.509 00:03:03.519 installation I've actually got two shut
00:03:06.839 00:03:06.849 offs here on my circulator so again this
00:03:09.899 00:03:09.909 is the circulator I'm changing the
00:03:12.059 00:03:12.069 electricity to the boiler is off so at
00:03:15.629 00:03:15.639 this point what I've got to do is two
00:03:17.819 00:03:17.829 things I've got to remove the pump
00:03:19.410 00:03:19.420 physically to get the water pump portion
00:03:22.379 00:03:22.389 of it out and then I've got to do this
00:03:23.879 00:03:23.889 electrical piece to connect the new pump
00:03:25.589 00:03:25.599 so I'll show you a few steps so on mine
00:03:27.839 00:03:27.849 I am very fortunate and I have these
00:03:29.250 00:03:29.260 shutoff valves so I'm going to turn each
00:03:31.170 00:03:31.180 of them all the way off so you may not
00:03:34.710 00:03:34.720 have shutoff valves and if you don't
00:03:37.229 00:03:37.239 what that typically means you've got to
00:03:38.729 00:03:38.739 do is you've got to show all the power
00:03:40.229 00:03:40.239 off and then you've got to drain the
00:03:42.180 00:03:42.190 water out of your boiler some people
00:03:44.189 00:03:44.199 will drain as much as they can they'll
00:03:45.629 00:03:45.639 use these types of drains and then
00:03:48.030 00:03:48.040 they'll just go for it they'll unbolt
00:03:49.649 00:03:49.659 this and they'll try to catch the water
00:03:51.539 00:03:51.549 it's a little bit more complicated to
00:03:53.520 00:03:53.530 drain your boiler out but I'll show you
00:03:55.530 00:03:55.540 how it's done on mine and you can see if
00:03:56.939 00:03:56.949 you can find your own way or if you have
00:03:58.319 00:03:58.329 shut offs you can do the same that I'm
00:03:59.879 00:03:59.889 doing so next thing I'm going to do a
00:04:03.270 00:04:03.280 point of the towel obviously is to catch
00:04:05.159 00:04:05.169 some water so even though I have this
00:04:07.170 00:04:07.180 water these water valves shut off all
00:04:09.030 00:04:09.040 the way when I take this out and I
00:04:10.770 00:04:10.780 loosen these bolts I'm gonna lose some
00:04:12.750 00:04:12.760 water and it's gonna come down on this
00:04:14.189 00:04:14.199 this can be really hot water I know this
00:04:16.409 00:04:16.419 zone has been off for a while so it's
00:04:19.020 00:04:19.030 actually fairly cool but again if you've
00:04:21.029 00:04:21.039 got boiling water coming out you got to
00:04:22.740 00:04:22.750 be careful so next thing I'm gonna do is
00:04:25.830 00:04:25.840 that each of these flanges has two bolts
00:04:28.529 00:04:28.539 and I've got to remove those so I'm
00:04:31.860 00:04:31.870 gonna put a wrench you need two wrenches
00:04:35.820 00:04:35.830 for this you have an upper bolt and a
00:04:38.850 00:04:38.860 lower
00:04:40.439 00:04:40.449 wanna loosen each of these I'll take
00:04:44.559 00:04:44.569 them both off and you'll see that the
00:04:45.969 00:04:45.979 water is going to come off both of these
00:05:01.769 00:05:01.779 your bolts have been on here a long long
00:05:04.119 00:05:04.129 time can actually be pretty tricky you
00:05:08.769 00:05:08.779 can start to see the water's coming out
00:05:10.089 00:05:10.099 now and then the power is off I have the
00:05:11.980 00:05:11.990 breaker off as well so I shouldn't have
00:05:14.230 00:05:14.240 any problems with that take these bolts
00:05:16.779 00:05:16.789 out and then I'm gonna get the bolts in
00:05:19.570 00:05:19.580 the back as well said one more to go all
00:05:36.999 00:05:37.009 right you can see a bunch of water
00:05:38.829 00:05:38.839 coming out hopefully these valves will
00:05:41.290 00:05:41.300 hold but there's a good amount of water
00:05:43.510 00:05:43.520 in this little section so that's why I
00:05:45.519 00:05:45.529 put the towel better catch it this pump
00:05:51.219 00:05:51.229 is gonna be free when I lift this so you
00:05:53.379 00:05:53.389 want to be ready to catch it so I'm
00:05:55.869 00:05:55.879 gonna lift this pipe a little and
00:05:57.879 00:05:57.889 there's the water I don't I might have
00:06:01.749 00:06:01.759 to support that a little bit so you
00:06:06.490 00:06:06.500 gotta be careful with plumbing because
00:06:08.219 00:06:08.229 sometimes if I just let this go that can
00:06:11.829 00:06:11.839 actually break off so what I'm gonna try
00:06:14.050 00:06:14.060 to do this isn't necessarily the most
00:06:17.409 00:06:17.419 amazing thing in the world is you're
00:06:19.029 00:06:19.039 gonna place this wrench here just
00:06:20.230 00:06:20.240 temporarily just to hold that I'm gonna
00:06:23.679 00:06:23.689 get to make sure these o-rings if you
00:06:25.300 00:06:25.310 notice right here this all ring is still
00:06:27.820 00:06:27.830 seated so we got to get that out of here
00:06:30.519 00:06:30.529 so we're gonna take that out and the
00:06:33.309 00:06:33.319 next thing actually I'm here it's gonna
00:06:35.950 00:06:35.960 clean these flanges a little bit it's
00:06:38.829 00:06:38.839 important with these new seals
00:06:42.340 00:06:42.350 I think you get a clean base you can see
00:06:45.340 00:06:45.350 quite a bit of buildup there I'll do the
00:06:48.340 00:06:48.350 same with this trying to tighten that a
00:06:53.560 00:06:53.570 little bit more there we go
00:06:56.410 00:06:56.420 I think that'll actually hold a little
00:06:57.910 00:06:57.920 better so again I'm going to check to
00:06:59.770 00:06:59.780 make sure that there's nothing coming
00:07:02.470 00:07:02.480 out I'm gonna just brace that just a
00:07:10.330 00:07:10.340 hold down tighten that a little bit so
00:07:12.390 00:07:12.400 again I wouldn't want to leave this like
00:07:14.440 00:07:14.450 this but that's long enough just to keep
00:07:16.240 00:07:16.250 the plumbing from falling now we're
00:07:17.650 00:07:17.660 gonna work on the wiring for the pump
00:07:19.710 00:07:19.720 the next thing we're gonna do is we're
00:07:22.510 00:07:22.520 going to take this little cover off to
00:07:23.740 00:07:23.750 get the wiring exposed all right
00:07:40.470 00:07:40.480 so for electrical wiring this is
00:07:42.820 00:07:42.830 something you may want to watch another
00:07:43.870 00:07:43.880 video but in my case there's two wires
00:07:46.090 00:07:46.100 in here you've got a hot in a neutral
00:07:48.040 00:07:48.050 and all I've got to do is undo these
00:07:50.350 00:07:50.360 wire nuts you actually want to support
00:07:52.450 00:07:52.460 this a little bit I'll do this undo
00:07:59.650 00:07:59.660 these
00:08:07.830 00:08:07.840 all right hot the neutral the next thing
00:08:13.000 00:08:13.010 I've got to do is there's a little
00:08:14.680 00:08:14.690 nuttin here you can see that little knot
00:08:16.450 00:08:16.460 in the back again make sure your wire is
00:08:20.200 00:08:20.210 off I mean you're on power is off
00:08:22.810 00:08:22.820 obviously all right
00:08:32.110 00:08:32.120 the old pump is completely off just to
00:08:35.830 00:08:35.840 make sure okay so the next thing I want
00:08:38.080 00:08:38.090 to explain is if you look on the base of
00:08:41.170 00:08:41.180 this pump you're gonna see a little
00:08:42.940 00:08:42.950 dirty thing in there and that's okay
00:08:44.680 00:08:44.690 that it's not so clean that is this and
00:08:51.640 00:08:51.650 this is that check valve that I talked
00:08:53.080 00:08:53.090 about earlier so what happens what they
00:08:55.360 00:08:55.370 what they do is they generally will
00:08:56.770 00:08:56.780 supply this with certain model pumps so
00:08:58.930 00:08:58.940 that's why it's important to take your
00:09:00.100 00:09:00.110 old model number and give that to your
00:09:02.230 00:09:02.240 supply house so that they can help you
00:09:03.700 00:09:03.710 so what we've got to do now is take our
00:09:06.790 00:09:06.800 new pump and put this in the same
00:09:08.560 00:09:08.570 location for the directions so again in
00:09:11.110 00:09:11.120 my case my pump was installed like this
00:09:12.940 00:09:12.950 the check valve was in the bottom so
00:09:14.680 00:09:14.690 that's exactly how we're going to
00:09:15.640 00:09:15.650 install the new one so I put the old
00:09:17.860 00:09:17.870 pump aside take the new pump which is
00:09:21.490 00:09:21.500 right here and I might just put a little
00:09:24.610 00:09:24.620 bit of water on the inside to help
00:09:26.260 00:09:26.270 lubricate it a little bit and we are
00:09:30.520 00:09:30.530 gonna put it in the way this goes it
00:09:32.050 00:09:32.060 actually installs just like the old one
00:09:33.640 00:09:33.650 gonna put it in just check the spring a
00:09:38.590 00:09:38.600 little bit if you notice on this if you
00:09:40.060 00:09:40.070 push this in a little bit a little
00:09:42.070 00:09:42.080 spring action so we're gonna insert this
00:09:44.410 00:09:44.420 in the bottom and press that in all the
00:09:47.950 00:09:47.960 way let's go with it alright sometimes
00:09:49.600 00:09:49.610 to rotate just gently to make sure it's
00:09:51.340 00:09:51.350 in all the way and again that goes in
00:09:54.070 00:09:54.080 far so when I just first push that in it
00:09:56.830 00:09:56.840 didn't feel like it went in all the way
00:09:57.940 00:09:57.950 and I just pushed it in the extra
00:09:59.440 00:09:59.450 distance and now it really is in so
00:10:02.110 00:10:02.120 that's as far as it's gonna go so now
00:10:04.210 00:10:04.220 you can see we have our new one in so
00:10:06.520 00:10:06.530 now at this point I actually can install
00:10:08.560 00:10:08.570 the pump into the location and we can do
00:10:11.650 00:10:11.660 the wiring after so I think that's
00:10:13.480 00:10:13.490 actually what I'm gonna do so I'm gonna
00:10:14.770 00:10:14.780 take this little cover off and if you
00:10:16.690 00:10:16.700 notice they've already got this
00:10:18.519 00:10:18.529 on the bottom so what I'm gonna do now
00:10:21.220 00:10:21.230 is give you a shot of this I'm going to
00:10:26.860 00:10:26.870 just unscrew this lip this is for the
00:10:28.210 00:10:28.220 electrical let's cover off that little
00:10:34.689 00:10:34.699 screw aside and that's our electrical
00:10:37.480 00:10:37.490 and these new ones are very very easy so
00:10:40.449 00:10:40.459 put that cover aside and the next thing
00:10:43.150 00:10:43.160 we're gonna do is get our pump ready to
00:10:45.549 00:10:45.559 install so the next thing we want to do
00:10:47.860 00:10:47.870 is take our brand new o-rings and we
00:10:49.780 00:10:49.790 want to put them on the pump so what I
00:10:51.699 00:10:51.709 personally like to do I like to put them
00:10:54.610 00:10:54.620 in place on the pump first and they do
00:10:57.939 00:10:57.949 push into these grooves pretty well so
00:10:59.860 00:10:59.870 I'm going to set these in now this is
00:11:02.019 00:11:02.029 where you can get into trouble because
00:11:03.970 00:11:03.980 when you're going to install these it's
00:11:05.679 00:11:05.689 very very easy to have these fall off
00:11:08.499 00:11:08.509 while you're working and you can also
00:11:13.210 00:11:13.220 knock them out knock them out of place
00:11:15.340 00:11:15.350 while you're putting them on so you want
00:11:18.670 00:11:18.680 to make sure they're set in there pretty
00:11:19.780 00:11:19.790 well you've got your check valve in
00:11:21.730 00:11:21.740 place the other thing that's incredibly
00:11:24.160 00:11:24.170 important and I have a mentioned to get
00:11:26.350 00:11:26.360 is these pumps have a direction and the
00:11:29.590 00:11:29.600 key you can hardly see this but there is
00:11:32.439 00:11:32.449 an arrow right there and that arrow is
00:11:34.150 00:11:34.160 pointing down so the only thing you need
00:11:36.189 00:11:36.199 to know is that these pumps have to be
00:11:37.540 00:11:37.550 installed with the flow going a certain
00:11:39.429 00:11:39.439 way now so make sure the direction of
00:11:42.939 00:11:42.949 the pump is flowing the way the existing
00:11:44.499 00:11:44.509 pump was and you should be fine so now
00:11:47.199 00:11:47.209 that we've got our o-rings in place
00:11:49.139 00:11:49.149 we're going to go put this back onto the
00:11:53.199 00:11:53.209 pump flange and the double check to make
00:11:56.920 00:11:56.930 sure our or rings are in place you see I
00:11:58.509 00:11:58.519 have these first o-ring on the bottom
00:12:00.519 00:12:00.529 and I have another one here and they're
00:12:02.259 00:12:02.269 seated very well so the next thing I
00:12:04.749 00:12:04.759 need to do is to take my little
00:12:06.579 00:12:06.589 temporary wrench that was kind of
00:12:08.590 00:12:08.600 holding this all up let me see if I can
00:12:11.199 00:12:11.209 dry some of this water again make sure
00:12:13.900 00:12:13.910 that flange is clean because if it's not
00:12:17.460 00:12:17.470 that's when you're really going to have
00:12:19.299 00:12:19.309 some ceiling troubles so we're gonna set
00:12:22.449 00:12:22.459 this right in place where the bolt holes
00:12:25.299 00:12:25.309 are so because I've got a little bit of
00:12:27.699 00:12:27.709 water coming out at the end of the world
00:12:30.690 00:12:30.700 but I also don't want to take all day on
00:12:32.730 00:12:32.740 this either so we're gonna get these
00:12:36.120 00:12:36.130 bolts going in start Breton easy let's
00:12:47.910 00:12:47.920 write them all by hand the start and
00:12:51.600 00:12:51.610 remember you can do your wiring after
00:13:07.400 00:13:07.410 [Music]
00:13:09.650 00:13:09.660 seams install our back bolts so again
00:13:22.860 00:13:22.870 all I'm doing is I'm snugging it can
00:13:25.380 00:13:25.390 hear my kids in the background
00:13:26.640 00:13:26.650 typical typical day here alright so at
00:13:33.390 00:13:33.400 this point the bolts are all in so this
00:13:39.090 00:13:39.100 new pump is a little bit different than
00:13:40.800 00:13:40.810 the original in the sense that you no
00:13:43.140 00:13:43.150 longer need to put a wrench on both
00:13:45.060 00:13:45.070 sides and it's the reverse of what I
00:13:46.470 00:13:46.480 told you these bolts actually fit into a
00:13:49.020 00:13:49.030 tiny little groove that is here and they
00:13:52.140 00:13:52.150 actually hold it for you so now I
00:13:53.520 00:13:53.530 actually have to tighten it using the
00:13:55.860 00:13:55.870 top bolts so the other thing what
00:13:57.720 00:13:57.730 plumbing that I really like to do is
00:13:59.730 00:13:59.740 before I tighten these up you just
00:14:02.220 00:14:02.230 actually loosen on that for a minute I
00:14:03.540 00:14:03.550 just want to make sure I don't have any
00:14:05.880 00:14:05.890 kind of tension on this so I just wait a
00:14:08.100 00:14:08.110 little bit and now I'm going to start to
00:14:10.020 00:14:10.030 tighten this so again you want to take
00:14:12.810 00:14:12.820 the obviously have to tighten both sides
00:14:14.190 00:14:14.200 front and back and I like to alternate a
00:14:16.500 00:14:16.510 bit tighten this and already I can see
00:14:22.980 00:14:22.990 that the water is starting to stop which
00:14:25.290 00:14:25.300 is probably a good thing I'll do the
00:14:28.980 00:14:28.990 bottom do the opposite side
00:14:35.449 00:14:35.459 so this is where you're gonna see a big
00:14:38.939 00:14:38.949 difference how people do this I tighten
00:14:42.480 00:14:42.490 them pretty tight right no I'm sure they
00:14:45.480 00:14:45.490 can be too tight but like I want to find
00:14:47.939 00:14:47.949 any leak so the other thing to remember
00:14:50.129 00:14:50.139 with a lot heating is that heating
00:14:54.269 00:14:54.279 pressures by typically less than 20 psi
00:14:57.259 00:14:57.269 so most often you do want things very
00:15:00.840 00:15:00.850 tight but it shouldn't take an enormous
00:15:03.300 00:15:03.310 amount of force to seal because you
00:15:05.460 00:15:05.470 don't have as much pressure so at this
00:15:08.009 00:15:08.019 point these bolts are in place I got the
00:15:13.170 00:15:13.180 front and back pretty tight all right so
00:15:18.360 00:15:18.370 as far as the water portion of this pump
00:15:20.009 00:15:20.019 goes this parts done
00:15:22.079 00:15:22.089 so now everything's tightened up and
00:15:24.960 00:15:24.970 it's all in place
00:15:26.220 00:15:26.230 I believe our gaskets are in good shape
00:15:28.680 00:15:28.690 I didn't see anything come out I think
00:15:31.079 00:15:31.089 things are pretty well sealed air in
00:15:32.430 00:15:32.440 here so now these are open if you have
00:15:34.259 00:15:34.269 these shutoff valves so at this point if
00:15:36.329 00:15:36.339 you didn't have shutoff valves I will
00:15:38.160 00:15:38.170 continue and do the electrical and do
00:15:39.720 00:15:39.730 everything at the end so now we're going
00:15:42.780 00:15:42.790 to move on to the electrical so the
00:15:45.720 00:15:45.730 first thing I've got to do is I've
00:15:47.250 00:15:47.260 actually got to put this into the box so
00:15:50.430 00:15:50.440 if you notice way you do these first you
00:15:52.860 00:15:52.870 put the wire in the way I like to do it
00:15:55.650 00:15:55.660 is I like to get the wire in pretty much
00:15:56.910 00:15:56.920 all the way and you notice this little
00:15:59.309 00:15:59.319 metal part goes in but it's obviously
00:16:00.720 00:16:00.730 loose so the next thing you need to do
00:16:02.939 00:16:02.949 is that not that you have taken off
00:16:05.069 00:16:05.079 before you put that on your wires and
00:16:07.790 00:16:07.800 that gets threaded onto this which is
00:16:11.639 00:16:11.649 the top of the connector these gonna be
00:16:14.819 00:16:14.829 a little bit finicky to get on there
00:16:16.590 00:16:16.600 real rough thread let's see if we can
00:16:19.920 00:16:19.930 get this alright so once this gets on
00:16:24.420 00:16:24.430 you can tighten that up a bit again it
00:16:28.949 00:16:28.959 doesn't have to be blistering tight
00:16:33.510 00:16:33.520 all right so now we're getting somewhere
00:16:36.360 00:16:36.370 the last thing we need to do is connect
00:16:38.520 00:16:38.530 the white and a black and this is my
00:16:40.620 00:16:40.630 original wiring and sometimes these
00:16:43.380 00:16:43.390 wires can be really beat-up they
00:16:44.850 00:16:44.860 actually look pretty good to me so I'm
00:16:46.080 00:16:46.090 not gonna recut them or strip them or
00:16:47.670 00:16:47.680 anything I'm gonna use them just as is
00:16:48.960 00:16:48.970 and then now I've got the pump wire so
00:16:51.690 00:16:51.700 I'm going to show you another thing
00:16:53.070 00:16:53.080 that's a little bit different instead of
00:16:56.130 00:16:56.140 just using these were what was
00:16:57.720 00:16:57.730 originally on there and that's fine you
00:16:59.520 00:16:59.530 can use these I have another idea and
00:17:02.160 00:17:02.170 I'm gonna show that to you right now all
00:17:04.800 00:17:04.810 right you tube is brace yourself or
00:17:06.690 00:17:06.700 something
00:17:07.199 00:17:07.209 all right this is what people get upset
00:17:09.230 00:17:09.240 they gonna see this little thing you say
00:17:11.340 00:17:11.350 what is this piece of junk right so this
00:17:13.680 00:17:13.690 thing right here I don't know how well
00:17:15.180 00:17:15.190 you can say it there's actually a brand
00:17:17.220 00:17:17.230 if you can hear off on my kids screaming
00:17:18.870 00:17:18.880 called Wego and this is a different kind
00:17:21.630 00:17:21.640 of electrical connector one of the real
00:17:23.610 00:17:23.620 benefits of this they do really well
00:17:25.770 00:17:25.780 when you're mixing types of wire so
00:17:28.050 00:17:28.060 obviously from the pump and I'm going to
00:17:29.820 00:17:29.830 just twist these a little bit
00:17:30.990 00:17:31.000 it's a stranded wire and you can see
00:17:33.480 00:17:33.490 that this has a bunch of strands and
00:17:35.420 00:17:35.430 from your house why are you almost
00:17:37.470 00:17:37.480 always going to have solid connections
00:17:41.730 00:17:41.740 like this so what's really great about
00:17:44.130 00:17:44.140 these they do really well when you mix
00:17:45.810 00:17:45.820 solid and stranded wire which sometimes
00:17:48.060 00:17:48.070 with wire nuts that can be a problem and
00:17:49.710 00:17:49.720 they can come off over time the other
00:17:52.170 00:17:52.180 benefits of this is when you want to
00:17:53.790 00:17:53.800 remove them they come off easily and
00:17:55.290 00:17:55.300 they don't damage the wire so the way
00:17:57.150 00:17:57.160 these work and I like these a lot
00:17:58.830 00:17:58.840 you lift these up you have to push them
00:18:01.260 00:18:01.270 all the way up these little tiny lovers
00:18:03.260 00:18:03.270 once those lovers are up all you have to
00:18:05.970 00:18:05.980 do is set them on the wire and click
00:18:08.910 00:18:08.920 this and that's it pull that as hard as
00:18:12.090 00:18:12.100 I want that's not coming off so at that
00:18:14.370 00:18:14.380 point I've just got to reconnect the
00:18:15.870 00:18:15.880 pump and we're getting we're getting on
00:18:17.730 00:18:17.740 our way so actually I'm looking at this
00:18:20.640 00:18:20.650 I don't love how curly this wire is so I
00:18:22.740 00:18:22.750 am gonna re strip these so I'm just
00:18:24.540 00:18:24.550 gonna use my wire cutters I hold on so
00:18:26.550 00:18:26.560 it doesn't go shooting across the room
00:18:28.610 00:18:28.620 and what I'm gonna do is just cut each
00:18:31.020 00:18:31.030 of these you don't want to do this a
00:18:34.050 00:18:34.060 hundred times but that's the benefit of
00:18:35.880 00:18:35.890 the way go connectors is once you put
00:18:37.500 00:18:37.510 these on you'll never damage is wire
00:18:39.330 00:18:39.340 again if you have to change the pump
00:18:40.650 00:18:40.660 again all right so what we're going to
00:18:42.450 00:18:42.460 do now we're just going to strip some
00:18:44.490 00:18:44.500 insulation off these wires and
00:18:46.620 00:18:46.630 we're ready to install let's take this
00:18:51.200 00:18:51.210 this looks like 14-gauge to me which is
00:18:53.970 00:18:53.980 how I'm going to line this out whoops
00:19:02.979 00:19:02.989 it looks quite a bit better than me just
00:19:06.349 00:19:06.359 nice and clean and it's straight which
00:19:07.969 00:19:07.979 these connectors prefer so another cool
00:19:09.950 00:19:09.960 thing about this is you could actually
00:19:11.119 00:19:11.129 do some of your wiring so you can sort
00:19:13.129 00:19:13.139 of split it up so one of the first
00:19:14.959 00:19:14.969 things I'm going to do is I'll put one
00:19:17.209 00:19:17.219 you can see there's two holes in this
00:19:18.709 00:19:18.719 and they make different versions they
00:19:19.879 00:19:19.889 have ones with three holes five holes
00:19:22.159 00:19:22.169 and more so we're gonna just put this
00:19:24.169 00:19:24.179 onto the first leg and what's most
00:19:28.070 00:19:28.080 important when you look at this you
00:19:29.690 00:19:29.700 don't want to see any copper insulation
00:19:31.489 00:19:31.499 at the bottom of this so you shouldn't
00:19:33.169 00:19:33.179 have anything exposed so again I push
00:19:34.999 00:19:35.009 that down that's on there nice and tight
00:19:36.849 00:19:36.859 second one I'm gonna flip these love is
00:19:38.959 00:19:38.969 up like this put that on so now we've
00:19:46.249 00:19:46.259 got the hot and the neutral and now
00:19:49.399 00:19:49.409 we're going to take the pumps hot and
00:19:50.899 00:19:50.909 neutral and I'll twist these just a
00:19:52.310 00:19:52.320 little bit and I put them in to the way
00:19:54.859 00:19:54.869 go lock that in and I'm gonna put the
00:19:58.070 00:19:58.080 second in as well so I would say that
00:20:00.320 00:20:00.330 one downside of these Wego connectors is
00:20:02.839 00:20:02.849 that sometimes they're a little bigger
00:20:04.729 00:20:04.739 than wire nuts and they won't fit in the
00:20:06.169 00:20:06.179 box which means that when you fold them
00:20:08.539 00:20:08.549 up and put them inside here sometimes
00:20:10.129 00:20:10.139 they're a little tight but in this case
00:20:11.299 00:20:11.309 I should have plenty of room and most
00:20:13.249 00:20:13.259 modern stuff is starting to realize that
00:20:15.109 00:20:15.119 a lot of people use these connectors and
00:20:17.440 00:20:17.450 they they need a little bit more room so
00:20:21.349 00:20:21.359 I think I find that sometimes these
00:20:22.399 00:20:22.409 boxes are a bit larger so now what I'm
00:20:24.560 00:20:24.570 gonna do is I'm going to tuck these in
00:20:26.409 00:20:26.419 try to stay out of the angle and what I
00:20:29.810 00:20:29.820 like to do is I don't just shove these
00:20:31.099 00:20:31.109 in like a madman I try to curl them
00:20:33.649 00:20:33.659 around a little bit and one particularly
00:20:35.839 00:20:35.849 I do with all wire connectors no matter
00:20:37.940 00:20:37.950 what's now there I try to point them
00:20:39.289 00:20:39.299 upward because if there was ever water
00:20:41.450 00:20:41.460 that came in the box I prefer that the
00:20:43.820 00:20:43.830 water not go into the connector it's not
00:20:45.829 00:20:45.839 always possible to do that's not a
00:20:49.549 00:20:49.559 requirement that's just something that
00:20:50.749 00:20:50.759 I've done over the years I'm gonna push
00:20:54.919 00:20:54.929 this in so one thing that is important
00:20:58.989 00:20:58.999 and I'll give you a close-up of this and
00:21:01.879 00:21:01.889 these will get pushed in with the cover
00:21:03.320 00:21:03.330 a little bit is you're going to see
00:21:05.289 00:21:05.299 they're right here right when my little
00:21:08.930 00:21:08.940 pinky is that's the screw hole for the
00:21:11.329 00:21:11.339 cover so whatever you do you don't want
00:21:13.219 00:21:13.229 to leave the wire right over that
00:21:16.250 00:21:16.260 that cover you want to make sure you
00:21:18.680 00:21:18.690 want to make sure that when you put your
00:21:19.670 00:21:19.680 cover on it's going to be able to go
00:21:20.780 00:21:20.790 into that screw hole
00:21:32.940 00:21:32.950 00:21:35.290 00:21:35.300 all right cover is installed you need to
00:21:40.700 00:21:40.710 put a screw on it and we'll test it out
00:21:58.240 00:21:58.250 someone Heat's on you can actually see
00:22:00.800 00:22:00.810 that little light as I were to go on
00:22:02.090 00:22:02.100 which that means the water is running I
00:22:05.000 00:22:05.010 actually have it set to low as you can
00:22:07.580 00:22:07.590 see
00:22:09.530 00:22:09.540 and for my installation that's fine
00:22:11.830 00:22:11.840 because this is only run in a very small
00:22:14.300 00:22:14.310 loop if you were running your whole
00:22:15.560 00:22:15.570 house and I hope you can hear me talking
00:22:17.330 00:22:17.340 over my heat if you run in a whole house
00:22:20.930 00:22:20.940 you would likely increase that dial to a
00:22:23.630 00:22:23.640 higher speed
00:22:28.330 00:22:28.340 so at this point I'm just putting my
00:22:30.220 00:22:30.230 hand on the pipe and it feels to me like
00:22:32.830 00:22:32.840 this is circulating great so I'm gonna
00:22:34.930 00:22:34.940 check it a little bit close to
00:22:36.280 00:22:36.290 Philippe's and then we'll go from there
00:22:45.030 00:22:45.040 and see anything there
00:22:49.130 00:22:49.140 bottom looks good
00:22:52.620 00:22:52.630 top looks good
00:22:56.880 00:22:56.890 Tom's runnin eats runnin and I think
00:23:00.720 00:23:00.730 we're all set thanks for watching please
