00:00:00.860
hello again YouTube and I've got another
00:00:03.409 00:00:03.419 do-it-yourself video for you guys in
00:00:05.360 00:00:05.370 this one I'm going to be installing an
00:00:06.950 00:00:06.960 oil cooler in my 370z if you guys find
00:00:10.220 00:00:10.230 this video helpful give it a thumbs up
00:00:11.570 00:00:11.580 and even hit that subscribe button down
00:00:12.980 00:00:12.990 below for more do it yourself videos the
00:00:15.020 00:00:15.030 first things first we need to get the
00:00:16.490 00:00:16.500 front of the car jacked up just high
00:00:18.380 00:00:18.390 enough so that I can actually get
00:00:19.460 00:00:19.470 underneath it to be able to work on the
00:00:20.630 00:00:20.640 car so let's get right to it now
00:00:22.670 00:00:22.680 whenever I'm jacking my vehicles up I do
00:00:24.590 00:00:24.600 use a floor jack and I do make sure to
00:00:26.480 00:00:26.490 use a what's called pinch ball the
00:00:29.029 00:00:29.039 debtor
00:00:29.509 00:00:29.519 it's basically just a rubber puck that
00:00:30.800 00:00:30.810 you stick on top of the jack so you'd be
00:00:32.870 00:00:32.880 able to prevent the jack from damaging
00:00:34.520 00:00:34.530 the pinch welds the location is you're
00:00:36.350 00:00:36.360 gonna he's gonna be on the designated
00:00:40.069 00:00:40.079 jack points for this car you will see
00:00:42.799 00:00:42.809 these two grooves right here that marks
00:00:44.959 00:00:44.969 where you want to stick her jack so that
00:00:46.430 00:00:46.440 you can safely Jack the car up so I'm
00:00:48.110 00:00:48.120 just gonna stick the jack underneath
00:00:50.180 00:00:50.190 this point and proceed to jack the car
00:01:02.610 00:01:02.620 if you do not already have a floor jack
00:01:05.110 00:01:05.120 I highly recommend investing in one
00:01:06.700 00:01:06.710 these things only cost around $50 for a
00:01:09.010 00:01:09.020 basic standard unit and this makes
00:01:11.470 00:01:11.480 Jack's on the car up a lot easier
00:01:12.760 00:01:12.770 instead of having these days scissor
00:01:14.020 00:01:14.030 jacks they come with the car the next
00:01:23.500 00:01:23.510 thing I want to do is position your
00:01:24.550 00:01:24.560 floor jack in place underneath the pinch
00:01:26.230 00:01:26.240 weld and I use yet another adapter for
00:01:29.740 00:01:29.750 the jack stand to prevent any damage to
00:01:32.140 00:01:32.150 the pinch weld and then at this point
00:01:36.940 00:01:36.950 you want to slowly let the jack down so
00:01:43.420 00:01:43.430 the car rests on top of the jack stand
00:01:47.160 00:01:47.170 now we'll just go and repeat the same
00:01:49.090 00:01:49.100 steps on the other side making sure that
00:01:50.469 00:01:50.479 we Jack the car up to about the same
00:01:51.969 00:01:51.979 height
00:01:55.130 00:01:55.140 [Music]
00:01:59.400 00:01:59.410 and one thing I forgot to mention is you
00:02:02.380 00:02:02.390 do want to make sure you set your
00:02:03.700 00:02:03.710 parking brake that's that the car
00:02:05.200 00:02:05.210 doesn't slide back on you it's that way
00:02:07.450 00:02:07.460 it's nice and secure up in here and with
00:02:10.030 00:02:10.040 the car sleep eject up in the air now
00:02:11.830 00:02:11.840 the next order of business is gonna be
00:02:13.420 00:02:13.430 to go ahead and pop the hood and then we
00:02:15.550 00:02:15.560 will disconnect the negative terminal of
00:02:16.810 00:02:16.820 the battery so the batter will be
00:02:18.340 00:02:18.350 underneath this cover here in the back
00:02:20.110 00:02:20.120 left corner of the engine bay just go
00:02:22.330 00:02:22.340 ahead pull the tabs open to be able to
00:02:24.130 00:02:24.140 expose the battery and negative
00:02:26.590 00:02:26.600 terminals here on this side should be a
00:02:28.210 00:02:28.220 10 millimeter socket and with that loose
00:02:34.540 00:02:34.550 you want to tuck away somewhere safely
00:02:36.130 00:02:36.140 where it won't be at risk of moving up
00:02:38.230 00:02:38.240 and making contact with an eye go to
00:02:39.430 00:02:39.440 terminal again so now that that's tucked
00:02:41.170 00:02:41.180 out of the way we can proceed to
00:02:42.580 00:02:42.590 removing some of the under shrouds
00:02:44.590 00:02:44.600 underneath Apryl as well as the front
00:02:47.380 00:02:47.390 cover and in order to make it easier for
00:02:49.210 00:02:49.220 you to take off the fender liner and be
00:02:51.400 00:02:51.410 able to remove the front bumper I am
00:02:53.110 00:02:53.120 just gonna go ahead and remove both of
00:02:54.760 00:02:54.770 the front wheels this isn't strictly
00:02:56.590 00:02:56.600 necessary but it will allow you to slide
00:02:58.540 00:02:58.550 out from underneath the car a little
00:02:59.620 00:02:59.630 easier while you're working underneath
00:03:00.820 00:03:00.830 it to clarify you do need to remove the
00:03:03.250 00:03:03.260 passenger side wheel like I'm doing now
00:03:04.990 00:03:05.000 you don't have to remove the driver side
00:03:07.090 00:03:07.100 wheel but it will make accessing the
00:03:08.620 00:03:08.630 bolt that holds the bumper on a lot
00:03:10.120 00:03:10.130 easier
00:03:13.750 00:03:13.760 00:03:17.600 00:03:17.610 so now we are sitting underneath the car
00:03:19.979 00:03:19.989 and we are going to remove this plastic
00:03:21.390 00:03:21.400 under shroud that covers the oil pan to
00:03:23.369 00:03:23.379 do that you're going to take off a lot
00:03:25.110 00:03:25.120 of these ten millimeter bolts that are
00:03:26.550 00:03:26.560 lining the outside I'm actually missing
00:03:28.890 00:03:28.900 a couple of them for some reason mine
00:03:30.750 00:03:30.760 weren't here when I got it from the
00:03:31.949 00:03:31.959 dealership and apart from those ten
00:03:34.050 00:03:34.060 millimeter bolts you will also have some
00:03:36.449 00:03:36.459 of these little plastic clips in the
00:03:37.770 00:03:37.780 center that you'll need to remove as
00:03:39.149 00:03:39.159 well there's about three of them I think
00:03:41.100 00:03:41.110 here to the center and then you should
00:03:42.780 00:03:42.790 be able to take this plastic shroud off
00:03:45.410 00:03:45.420 00:03:54.260 00:03:54.270 and here's a better view of those
00:03:56.190 00:03:56.200 plastic clips you can just get
00:03:57.990 00:03:58.000 underneath them from one side and fly
00:03:59.580 00:03:59.590 that if you want to but if you have two
00:04:01.380 00:04:01.390 flat heads I'd recommend trying to go in
00:04:02.970 00:04:02.980 from the two sides at once that'll
00:04:04.680 00:04:04.690 prevent any damage to the clip but you
00:04:06.449 00:04:06.459 just need to pop this centerpiece out
00:04:08.130 00:04:08.140 right here and then you can pull the
00:04:09.270 00:04:09.280 entire clip out
00:04:11.140 00:04:11.150 00:04:15.770 00:04:15.780 all right next thing to do is remove
00:04:17.420 00:04:17.430 these little air shields here they're on
00:04:19.129 00:04:19.139 both sides of the car they sit in front
00:04:20.960 00:04:20.970 of the tires it looks like there's just
00:04:22.940 00:04:22.950 three ten millimeter bolts holding these
00:04:24.650 00:04:24.660 on you only have to remove this air
00:04:28.370 00:04:28.380 guard from the passenger side but if you
00:04:30.170 00:04:30.180 remove it from the driver's side it will
00:04:31.640 00:04:31.650 make peeling the fender liner back
00:04:33.290 00:04:33.300 easier later when we decide to take the
00:04:34.970 00:04:34.980 bumper off and with this air dam piece
00:04:39.140 00:04:39.150 removed they'll go ahead and also remove
00:04:40.610 00:04:40.620 this from a Nintendo on their bolt and
00:04:42.470 00:04:42.480 this little clip right here that's
00:04:43.909 00:04:43.919 holding this bottom section to the
00:04:45.530 00:04:45.540 fender
00:04:46.000 00:04:46.010 once again this bolt and clip are
00:04:48.320 00:04:48.330 optional on the driver side but I would
00:04:50.330 00:04:50.340 recommend going ahead and removing him
00:04:52.610 00:04:52.620 00:04:59.050 00:04:59.060 now the instructions sent from z1 do
00:05:02.060 00:05:02.070 call for the entire passenger side
00:05:04.040 00:05:04.050 fender liner to be removed so we can
00:05:06.110 00:05:06.120 start off by removing this plastic panel
00:05:08.390 00:05:08.400 in the back here which is held on by
00:05:09.740 00:05:09.750 three clips
00:05:20.140 00:05:20.150 and then I believe I see four additional
00:05:22.120 00:05:22.130 clips holding this fender liner on
00:05:23.340 00:05:23.350 there's one clip sitting here right next
00:05:25.659 00:05:25.669 to the panel we just removed one that's
00:05:27.969 00:05:27.979 sitting up here one that's connecting it
00:05:30.340 00:05:30.350 to the other section of the fender and
00:05:32.890 00:05:32.900 then there's one sitting right over here
00:05:35.460 00:05:35.470 on the passenger side you only need to
00:05:37.780 00:05:37.790 remove this clip on the side so that way
00:05:39.490 00:05:39.500 you can peel the fender liner back so
00:05:41.110 00:05:41.120 you can access the bolt that holds the
00:05:42.760 00:05:42.770 bumper on and this is what you'll see
00:05:44.710 00:05:44.720 once you have removed that fender liner
00:05:46.590 00:05:46.600 the next thing you want to do is you'll
00:05:48.550 00:05:48.560 want to remove this ten millimeter bolt
00:05:50.320 00:05:50.330 that sits up top that connects to the
00:05:52.060 00:05:52.070 bumper
00:06:22.529 00:06:22.539 so now the next thing that we are going
00:06:25.089 00:06:25.099 to do is go ahead and remove this piece
00:06:28.330 00:06:28.340 right here in this air dam deflector
00:06:30.219 00:06:30.229 there's just a bunch of little plastic
00:06:33.070 00:06:33.080 clips both on the bumper side and on the
00:06:36.610 00:06:36.620 air dam side right here you just need to
00:06:38.350 00:06:38.360 undo all these and then the air dam is
00:06:40.330 00:06:40.340 supposed to be able to slide out from
00:06:41.469 00:06:41.479 underneath the front bumper
00:06:43.810 00:06:43.820 00:06:53.880 00:06:53.890 so Zee ones instructions tell you to go
00:06:56.710 00:06:56.720 ahead and remove this piece before you
00:06:58.420 00:06:58.430 take off the bumper but I'm gonna go
00:06:59.830 00:06:59.840 ahead and do the reverse I'm gonna take
00:07:01.600 00:07:01.610 the bumper off first because this thing
00:07:03.820 00:07:03.830 is tightly wedged underneath the bumper
00:07:05.560 00:07:05.570 here so let's take the bumper off first
00:07:07.840 00:07:07.850 and then we should be able to remove
00:07:09.040 00:07:09.050 that piece now right now the bumper is
00:07:11.410 00:07:11.420 currently only going to be held on by
00:07:13.180 00:07:13.190 Clips both on this side and right here
00:07:17.230 00:07:17.240 underneath the headlights so what you'll
00:07:19.810 00:07:19.820 need to do is you'll need to pull firmly
00:07:22.000 00:07:22.010 on both sides you don't want to pull too
00:07:23.620 00:07:23.630 hard you're not trying to break the
00:07:24.790 00:07:24.800 bumper but just give it a firm tug
00:07:27.180 00:07:27.190 directly out from the headlight and then
00:07:29.590 00:07:29.600 those clips should be able to pop off
00:07:46.030 00:07:46.040 I would recommend finding a second
00:07:55.330 00:07:55.340 person to help you remove this bumper
00:07:56.860 00:07:56.870 because it means you can have somebody
00:07:58.180 00:07:58.190 on either side when you do remove the
00:08:00.790 00:08:00.800 bumper completely it will still be held
00:08:02.440 00:08:02.450 on to the car by the wires that go to
00:08:04.600 00:08:04.610 the fog lights so you don't want to let
00:08:06.760 00:08:06.770 the weight of the bumper rest on those
00:08:08.260 00:08:08.270 fog lights you do want to kind of keep
00:08:09.700 00:08:09.710 the bumper propped up as you remove the
00:08:11.680 00:08:11.690 cables and just to kind of show you guys
00:08:14.140 00:08:14.150 what you're gonna have to deal with with
00:08:15.610 00:08:15.620 these they are attached just by a simple
00:08:19.450 00:08:19.460 plug here you just got to press down
00:08:20.980 00:08:20.990 pretty firmly on the top there to be
00:08:23.260 00:08:23.270 able to loosen it and then it's held to
00:08:25.870 00:08:25.880 the bumper by this guy if you just
00:08:28.300 00:08:28.310 pinched the sides here
00:08:29.680 00:08:29.690 besides kind of dent in and then you can
00:08:31.810 00:08:31.820 pull that out of the bumper so that you
00:08:33.190 00:08:33.200 free this cable on the other side of the
00:08:36.400 00:08:36.410 car here you'll have this male plug
00:08:37.900 00:08:37.910 which will also detach in the same way
00:08:39.940 00:08:39.950 there's just a little tab here that you
00:08:42.370 00:08:42.380 press on the top and then that cable on
00:08:45.190 00:08:45.200 the bumper is connected to the reservoir
00:08:47.530 00:08:47.540 right here you also just have to pinch
00:08:49.720 00:08:49.730 the little nub on this side to be able
00:08:51.220 00:08:51.230 to free the cable now hopefully this air
00:08:53.740 00:08:53.750 dam should be able to come off a little
00:08:55.300 00:08:55.310 easier now
00:09:00.660 00:09:00.670 there we go that's not removed now
00:09:04.960 00:09:04.970 removing this Center bar here is not
00:09:07.570 00:09:07.580 strictly necessary in order to be able
00:09:09.370 00:09:09.380 to install this oil cooler but it will
00:09:11.320 00:09:11.330 make the job a lot easier so I'm just
00:09:13.210 00:09:13.220 gonna go ahead and remove it it should
00:09:15.490 00:09:15.500 just pull out like so set this aside and
00:09:19.270 00:09:19.280 then there will be it looks like four
00:09:21.640 00:09:21.650 bolts on both sides that we'll need to
00:09:25.030 00:09:25.040 remove now would be a good time to go
00:09:35.290 00:09:35.300 ahead and drain your oil just go up top
00:09:37.180 00:09:37.190 to the engine and take off the oil
00:09:39.100 00:09:39.110 filler cap and then loosen the oil drain
00:09:41.740 00:09:41.750 plug down below and then go ahead and
00:09:43.870 00:09:43.880 remove your oil filter as well
00:09:48.490 00:09:48.500 00:09:54.610 00:09:54.620 and while you're running on the older
00:09:56.019 00:09:56.029 drain it might be beneficial to go ahead
00:09:57.460 00:09:57.470 and just start cleaning up the radiator
00:09:58.990 00:09:59.000 here your Z's probably been to battle
00:10:00.910 00:10:00.920 with quite a few insects in its time so
00:10:02.980 00:10:02.990 it might be useful to go ahead and just
00:10:04.450 00:10:04.460 clean up the radiator while you're
00:10:05.980 00:10:05.990 waiting on all that oil to drain
00:10:08.010 00:10:08.020 00:10:17.390 00:10:17.400 all right got the radiator by the
00:10:19.800 00:10:19.810 subpoenas I'm gonna get it today just
00:10:21.240 00:10:21.250 ended up using a little toothbrush to
00:10:22.710 00:10:22.720 kind of knock out some of the stuff
00:10:24.180 00:10:24.190 that's sitting in there about most of
00:10:25.710 00:10:25.720 the big pieces there's still some small
00:10:27.630 00:10:27.640 stuff that's actually going to be
00:10:28.590 00:10:28.600 sitting in between each of the teeth
00:10:29.760 00:10:29.770 here and I can't get to but it's a lot
00:10:32.370 00:10:32.380 cleaner than when I started
00:10:33.450 00:10:33.460 so it looks like the oil is just about
00:10:35.880 00:10:35.890 finished draining now so we'll go ahead
00:10:38.250 00:10:38.260 and put back in the oil drain plug and
00:10:40.980 00:10:40.990 I'll go ahead and seal off the top as
00:10:43.140 00:10:43.150 well just to make sure that nothing ends
00:10:45.480 00:10:45.490 up falling into the oil pan all right
00:10:50.790 00:10:50.800 now that we got all of the panels
00:10:52.230 00:10:52.240 removed off of Z this time to actually
00:10:54.300 00:10:54.310 start assembling the oil cooler core and
00:10:57.300 00:10:57.310 the brackets so we'll go ahead and grab
00:10:58.950 00:10:58.960 the supplied hardware and the core
00:11:01.770 00:11:01.780 itself and stuff with zip ties aside
00:11:04.380 00:11:04.390 don't really need those so the first
00:11:07.590 00:11:07.600 step is to get out this aluminum bracket
00:11:08.850 00:11:08.860 here and we need to go ahead and free up
00:11:10.920 00:11:10.930 these small little brackets that are
00:11:13.080 00:11:13.090 attached to it using an Allen wrench
00:11:26.550 00:11:26.560 now with those two smaller brackets
00:11:28.470 00:11:28.480 removed off of larger lumen imrat we
00:11:31.650 00:11:31.660 should now be able to go ahead and just
00:11:33.179 00:11:33.189 attach this to the bottom of the core
00:11:34.650 00:11:34.660 according to Z ones instructions this
00:11:37.290 00:11:37.300 bracket is reversible you can put it on
00:11:39.329 00:11:39.339 either way because the core can be
00:11:40.710 00:11:40.720 rotated when you actually fit it on the
00:11:42.090 00:11:42.100 vehicle so I'm going to go ahead and
00:11:44.220 00:11:44.230 just get that lined up and then go ahead
00:11:47.280 00:11:47.290 and reattach the brackets using your
00:11:49.470 00:11:49.480 allen wrench the installation
00:11:51.629 00:11:51.639 instructions that I'm giving right now
00:11:53.129 00:11:53.139 are specific to the Z one oil cooler kit
00:11:55.559 00:11:55.569 if you go for a Mishimoto kit the
00:11:58.350 00:11:58.360 brackets may be slightly different so
00:12:00.090 00:12:00.100 make sure you consult the installation
00:12:01.829 00:12:01.839 manual that they provide this is what it
00:12:04.139 00:12:04.149 should look like you'll have the two
00:12:05.879 00:12:05.889 rubber pieces sandwich chain the plate
00:12:07.769 00:12:07.779 coming off of the core the gold pieces
00:12:09.809 00:12:09.819 on the bottom there which is threaded to
00:12:11.670 00:12:11.680 receive the allen wrench screws now with
00:12:14.579 00:12:14.589 that lower aluminum bracket installed
00:12:16.410 00:12:16.420 the next piece we are going to install
00:12:18.090 00:12:18.100 is this smaller upper bracket the
00:12:20.400 00:12:20.410 position of the smaller bracket relative
00:12:22.379 00:12:22.389 to the bottom aluminum bracket is pretty
00:12:24.059 00:12:24.069 important with this bottom point facing
00:12:27.210 00:12:27.220 forward you want to install the upper
00:12:29.879 00:12:29.889 bracket sort of like that and that is
00:12:34.049 00:12:34.059 the upper bracket mounted with a ten
00:12:35.610 00:12:35.620 millimeter bolts again if the plate is
00:12:38.100 00:12:38.110 facing this way you want to make sure
00:12:39.389 00:12:39.399 that this upper mount is facing the
00:12:41.100 00:12:41.110 opposite direction and in the upper left
00:12:43.290 00:12:43.300 corner alright the next step is now to
00:12:46.350 00:12:46.360 install these two little u clips that z1
00:12:49.110 00:12:49.120 supplies i've already gone ahead and
00:12:50.579 00:12:50.589 clip those on you just need to unthread
00:12:53.249 00:12:53.259 the bolt that comes already assembled in
00:12:55.170 00:12:55.180 them and then they just kind of snap
00:12:56.939 00:12:56.949 into place like so you don't want to
00:13:00.689 00:13:00.699 push these clips all the way in
00:13:01.860 00:13:01.870 otherwise I found it's really difficult
00:13:03.269 00:13:03.279 to be able to get the oil cooler bracket
00:13:05.189 00:13:05.199 to line up correctly so you just want to
00:13:07.079 00:13:07.089 push them in far enough so you can
00:13:08.189 00:13:08.199 thread a bolt now we should be able to
00:13:10.710 00:13:10.720 temporarily position the core using two
00:13:13.980 00:13:13.990 bottom brackets that we just need old
00:13:18.750 00:13:18.760 alright guys so skipped a couple steps
00:13:20.710 00:13:20.720 here with you but I finally got the core
00:13:22.420 00:13:22.430 lined up with those brackets that we've
00:13:24.069 00:13:24.079 placed in there with those brackets I
00:13:26.230 00:13:26.240 wouldn't push them in all the way
00:13:27.280 00:13:27.290 because they don't line up perfectly
00:13:28.840 00:13:28.850 with this lower bracket for the core so
00:13:31.480 00:13:31.490 I would just kind of keep those loose
00:13:33.250 00:13:33.260 that way can actually get these bolts
00:13:34.810 00:13:34.820 lined up now I don't have these tighten
00:13:36.579 00:13:36.589 down all the way because the next step
00:13:37.810 00:13:37.820 is going to be that we're going to need
00:13:39.400 00:13:39.410 to drill a hole in this Center bracket
00:13:41.800 00:13:41.810 here so that way we can mount the core
00:13:43.800 00:13:43.810 so the next step is to go ahead and mark
00:13:46.810 00:13:46.820 a spot to drill through the center core
00:13:48.910 00:13:48.920 support for this upper bracket so I'm
00:13:52.000 00:13:52.010 going to locate the position where I
00:13:53.889 00:13:53.899 want to drill and I'm going to go ahead
00:13:54.880 00:13:54.890 and make a little mark with this
00:13:56.259 00:13:56.269 screwdriver
00:14:03.480 00:14:03.490 go ahead and unbolt the core now and
00:14:06.460 00:14:06.470 drill a pilot hole to see if I'm sitting
00:14:08.620 00:14:08.630 in about the right place no before you
00:14:12.759 00:14:12.769 begin to drill I would probably
00:14:13.810 00:14:13.820 recommend putting something behind the
00:14:16.930 00:14:16.940 support in order to prevent you from
00:14:18.910 00:14:18.920 drilling straight through the radiator
00:14:20.590 00:14:20.600 it turns out about the box that this
00:14:22.780 00:14:22.790 core comes in is just about the right
00:14:24.069 00:14:24.079 size I'm go ahead and leave that there
00:14:26.350 00:14:26.360 in order to prevent myself from damaging
00:14:28.389 00:14:28.399 the radiator I would highly recommend
00:14:31.060 00:14:31.070 that you find something better than just
00:14:32.350 00:14:32.360 cardboard to protect the radiator
00:14:33.880 00:14:33.890 preferably if you can find like a piece
00:14:35.769 00:14:35.779 of plywood that'll work much better the
00:14:37.630 00:14:37.640 cardboard just barely protected my
00:14:39.490 00:14:39.500 radiator from getting any damage so I
00:14:41.470 00:14:41.480 would find something sturdier you want
00:14:43.780 00:14:43.790 to start off by drilling a pilot hole
00:14:45.400 00:14:45.410 and then checking to make sure the
00:14:46.420 00:14:46.430 alignment is good and then you want to
00:14:48.310 00:14:48.320 drill a hole just large enough where
00:14:50.530 00:14:50.540 that pilot hole is so that way you can
00:14:52.180 00:14:52.190 fit the bolt that's gonna hold that
00:14:53.470 00:14:53.480 upper mount alright and you can see the
00:14:57.550 00:14:57.560 hole I drilled is just about perfect
00:14:59.470 00:14:59.480 there everything looks like it is lined
00:15:01.750 00:15:01.760 up so I should be able now to go ahead
00:15:04.449 00:15:04.459 and fix the oil cooler in place now
00:15:07.810 00:15:07.820 before we do permanently fix this on to
00:15:10.150 00:15:10.160 the carb and see one does recommend that
00:15:12.460 00:15:12.470 we go ahead and fill the core with will
00:15:14.290 00:15:14.300 in order to do that we are gonna go
00:15:15.880 00:15:15.890 ahead and remove the two plugs that are
00:15:17.769 00:15:17.779 sitting on top of the oil cooler and it
00:15:19.630 00:15:19.640 looks like they take right around to the
00:15:21.460 00:15:21.470 21 millimeter to be able to remove the
00:15:23.500 00:15:23.510 beans and then z1 says to install one of
00:15:28.449 00:15:28.459 these loose fittings that come in the
00:15:29.860 00:15:29.870 package at a time they do say to go
00:15:31.480 00:15:31.490 ahead and lubricate these sides with the
00:15:32.949 00:15:32.959 o-ring we're just going to dab it in a
00:15:34.870 00:15:34.880 bit of the oil here I'll go ahead and
00:15:41.680 00:15:41.690 thread that side on
00:15:56.510 00:15:56.520 I think what I'm actually going to do is
00:16:01.760 00:16:01.770 I'm going to go ahead and secure this to
00:16:03.140 00:16:03.150 the car first before I start filling it
00:16:05.330 00:16:05.340 that way I don't have to move this core
00:16:07.370 00:16:07.380 around when it's already filled with oil
00:16:09.430 00:16:09.440 so here's the fresh container of oil
00:16:11.660 00:16:11.670 that I'm going to be using and just
00:16:12.500 00:16:12.510 going with the same stuff I used in my
00:16:13.940 00:16:13.950 previous oil change I think my plan will
00:16:16.340 00:16:16.350 be to use the turkey baster to try and
00:16:19.490 00:16:19.500 drip some the oil in there because I
00:16:21.140 00:16:21.150 can't really position the funnel
00:16:23.030 00:16:23.040 correctly to be able to fill that up
00:16:25.100 00:16:25.110 plus I think this thing is only going to
00:16:27.020 00:16:27.030 take a little less than like a liter of
00:16:28.580 00:16:28.590 oil so I think that'll be the plan
00:16:32.760 00:16:32.770 00:16:44.890 00:16:44.900 [Applause]
00:16:46.320 00:16:46.330 alright so the core is now filled up to
00:16:48.519 00:16:48.529 capacity with oil you guys might be able
00:16:50.680 00:16:50.690 to see it in there but I have pulled up
00:16:52.449 00:16:52.459 just by the size okay now I'm just go
00:16:55.240 00:16:55.250 ahead and thread on the other fitting
00:17:07.890 00:17:07.900 also when you guys are installing the
00:17:10.569 00:17:10.579 core make sure you keep an eye on this
00:17:12.160 00:17:12.170 AC line back here you don't want to have
00:17:14.860 00:17:14.870 the core touching that whenever you
00:17:16.480 00:17:16.490 install it you don't want this to end up
00:17:18.309 00:17:18.319 clinging together because it might make
00:17:19.990 00:17:20.000 a lot of noise and it could possibly
00:17:21.130 00:17:21.140 damage the AC line so make sure you have
00:17:23.740 00:17:23.750 plenty of clearance back here when
00:17:25.299 00:17:25.309 you're installing okay now it's time to
00:17:27.640 00:17:27.650 start running the stainless steel lines
00:17:29.320 00:17:29.330 you will notice that one side is a
00:17:31.720 00:17:31.730 little bit longer by about six inches or
00:17:33.790 00:17:33.800 so that's going to be important to
00:17:35.290 00:17:35.300 remember when you're threading these on
00:17:36.610 00:17:36.620 so I'm gonna go ahead and just feed
00:17:38.590 00:17:38.600 these behind the center brace here and
00:17:44.230 00:17:44.240 then the shorter hose is going to be
00:17:47.020 00:17:47.030 attached to this line and the longer
00:17:49.450 00:17:49.460 hose is going to be attached to this
00:17:51.040 00:17:51.050 side here now before I attach the hoses
00:17:53.890 00:17:53.900 I'm gonna go ahead and put a little bit
00:17:55.600 00:17:55.610 of thread sealant on these fittings
00:17:57.910 00:17:57.920 because I have heard from some people
00:17:59.530 00:17:59.540 that sometimes oil can leak especially
00:18:01.750 00:18:01.760 when it's getting hot so I'm gonna go
00:18:03.520 00:18:03.530 ahead and clean off these threads a
00:18:05.260 00:18:05.270 little bit and then I'm going to apply
00:18:07.060 00:18:07.070 some thread sealer
00:18:09.950 00:18:09.960 00:18:21.940 00:18:21.950 all right so those are the fittings now
00:18:24.070 00:18:24.080 in place and tightened down originally I
00:18:26.049 00:18:26.059 ran this line in front of the center
00:18:28.629 00:18:28.639 beam here but I was able to unbolt it
00:18:31.299 00:18:31.309 and then rerun it behind here so now
00:18:33.399 00:18:33.409 both of the lines run behind the center
00:18:34.870 00:18:34.880 beam now we need to drop these lines all
00:18:37.509 00:18:37.519 the way around and then underneath the
00:18:40.389 00:18:40.399 windshield wiper bottle there the only
00:18:42.789 00:18:42.799 problem is this piece gets in the way so
00:18:45.159 00:18:45.169 we are going to need to trim this up
00:18:46.629 00:18:46.639 just have some heavy-duty scissors here
00:18:49.750 00:18:49.760 that should do the trick
00:18:50.590 00:18:50.600 we're just going to cut it right along
00:18:53.680 00:18:53.690 here okay that's that front piece
00:18:59.769 00:18:59.779 removed now so we can run the lines in
00:19:01.450 00:19:01.460 front of it and then through this space
00:19:02.919 00:19:02.929 here with the windshield wherever
00:19:03.850 00:19:03.860 reservoir
00:19:06.630 00:19:06.640 00:19:13.760 00:19:13.770 so I've gone ahead and reinstalled this
00:19:16.590 00:19:16.600 structural piece here and I've gone
00:19:18.870 00:19:18.880 ahead and run the lines over it just to
00:19:21.420 00:19:21.430 make sure it they clear and they do pass
00:19:23.400 00:19:23.410 snugly just about the windshield wiper
00:19:25.470 00:19:25.480 fluid reservoir now the next order of
00:19:27.750 00:19:27.760 business is going to be to get these
00:19:28.920 00:19:28.930 lines to run between the steering fluid
00:19:31.230 00:19:31.240 lines right here so there is a spacer
00:19:33.990 00:19:34.000 that z1 provides that's going to replace
00:19:37.890 00:19:37.900 the bolt that sits just back there so
00:19:41.070 00:19:41.080 I'm gonna need to back these lines out
00:19:42.390 00:19:42.400 go ahead and unbolt this line and pull
00:19:44.520 00:19:44.530 it forward about an inch so that way we
00:19:46.290 00:19:46.300 can run these lines in between here and
00:19:48.930 00:19:48.940 then pass through this space into the
00:19:51.000 00:19:51.010 oil filter when I'm bolting this bracket
00:20:00.060 00:20:00.070 so that you can reposition the steering
00:20:01.800 00:20:01.810 fluid lines you want to make sure that
00:20:03.450 00:20:03.460 you do not bend the lines by accident
00:20:05.250 00:20:05.260 because you could damage them you also
00:20:06.900 00:20:06.910 want to make sure when you reposition
00:20:07.920 00:20:07.930 them that they're not rubbing against
00:20:09.510 00:20:09.520 anything because they could possibly get
00:20:11.070 00:20:11.080 damaged
00:20:13.920 00:20:13.930 00:20:19.730 00:20:19.740 so I had to put my camera back on the
00:20:21.840 00:20:21.850 charger it's about 30 minutes to an hour
00:20:24.029 00:20:24.039 later now but I finally got these lines
00:20:26.520 00:20:26.530 running correctly so as you guys saw
00:20:28.950 00:20:28.960 they do run of course above the
00:20:31.289 00:20:31.299 windshield wiper fluid reservoir here
00:20:34.610 00:20:34.620 now here I had to deviate from the
00:20:37.380 00:20:37.390 instructions a little bit they tell you
00:20:39.539 00:20:39.549 to run the oil clear lines behind the
00:20:41.430 00:20:41.440 bracket here once you've put in this 1
00:20:44.130 00:20:44.140 inch spacer that you can see back there
00:20:45.960 00:20:45.970 however I couldn't I get the oil cooler
00:20:48.240 00:20:48.250 lines to bend to be able to actually
00:20:49.919 00:20:49.929 make it around this bracket so instead I
00:20:51.960 00:20:51.970 just have it passing behind this
00:20:54.299 00:20:54.309 steering fluid line here but in the
00:20:56.669 00:20:56.679 front of the bracket and then it just
00:20:58.320 00:20:58.330 passes through this gap here in the
00:20:59.850 00:20:59.860 frame one important thing when you're
00:21:02.070 00:21:02.080 routing these guys is try not to bend
00:21:03.990 00:21:04.000 them too much while you're trying to
00:21:05.370 00:21:05.380 wrap them into place because you don't
00:21:07.740 00:21:07.750 want to fray the protective covering on
00:21:10.680 00:21:10.690 it so when you're trying to get these
00:21:12.360 00:21:12.370 through here just make sure you're not
00:21:14.250 00:21:14.260 putting too much stress on the lines and
00:21:16.350 00:21:16.360 definitely don't come too much stress on
00:21:18.149 00:21:18.159 these steering fluid lines as well
00:21:19.980 00:21:19.990 you don't want these to burst and then
00:21:21.450 00:21:21.460 end up working a lot fluid everywhere
00:21:23.870 00:21:23.880 and then this right here was probably
00:21:27.539 00:21:27.549 the hardest part it is very difficult to
00:21:29.700 00:21:29.710 try and get these 90 degree joints to be
00:21:32.279 00:21:32.289 able to bend to reach the sandwich plate
00:21:34.169 00:21:34.179 and to be able to orient the sandwich
00:21:35.700 00:21:35.710 plate to get it in the right position
00:21:36.510 00:21:36.520 because you don't want it to rub against
00:21:38.520 00:21:38.530 the frame back here and you just barely
00:21:40.860 00:21:40.870 have enough line to be able to actually
00:21:42.240 00:21:42.250 make these connections but I've finally
00:21:44.789 00:21:44.799 got them set this these fittings are
00:21:47.340 00:21:47.350 almost facing straight down they are
00:21:49.740 00:21:49.750 pushed slightly off towards the frame
00:21:51.870 00:21:51.880 here but I just managed to get them to
00:21:54.240 00:21:54.250 fit and I have just barely left enough
00:21:56.640 00:21:56.650 room in here
00:21:57.270 00:21:57.280 to be able to squeeze an oil filter up
00:22:00.750 00:22:00.760 into the space like so so it is pretty
00:22:06.270 00:22:06.280 tight and then I believe this right here
00:22:08.070 00:22:08.080 is an AC line that basically sits
00:22:12.240 00:22:12.250 against the oil filter which I'm not
00:22:13.830 00:22:13.840 entirely sure it's gonna be an issue or
00:22:15.299 00:22:15.309 not but I figure there's probably enough
00:22:17.789 00:22:17.799 insulation on the back here hopefully
00:22:19.260 00:22:19.270 this thing doesn't get too hot and
00:22:20.430 00:22:20.440 doesn't mess with the refrigeration but
00:22:22.649 00:22:22.659 I ran my oil cooler lines underneath
00:22:24.960 00:22:24.970 that but everything is loosely in place
00:22:27.149 00:22:27.159 now I'm going
00:22:28.100 00:22:28.110 go ahead and apply and my thread sealant
00:22:30.200 00:22:30.210 to the threads here in order to prevent
00:22:32.450 00:22:32.460 any leaks and then I'll be able to
00:22:34.039 00:22:34.049 tighten everything down correctly a
00:22:35.510 00:22:35.520 helpful hint when you're trying to
00:22:37.250 00:22:37.260 position the sandwich plate you want the
00:22:39.080 00:22:39.090 fittings to be facing at about the 7
00:22:41.270 00:22:41.280 o'clock position when you're looking at
00:22:42.680 00:22:42.690 the sandwich plate from this direction
00:22:43.910 00:22:43.920 you don't want them to be pointed
00:22:45.799 00:22:45.809 straight down because then they could
00:22:47.030 00:22:47.040 bump against the under shroud but you
00:22:48.919 00:22:48.929 also don't want them pointing too far
00:22:50.450 00:22:50.460 towards the back of the car otherwise
00:22:51.980 00:22:51.990 these oil lines could bump against the
00:22:53.960 00:22:53.970 crossmember here and that could end up
00:22:55.640 00:22:55.650 damaging the lines and spewing oil
00:22:57.140 00:22:57.150 everywhere
00:22:57.590 00:22:57.600 so you want to make sure that these oil
00:22:59.450 00:22:59.460 lines have enough clearance and in order
00:23:02.600 00:23:02.610 to address the fitment issue with the
00:23:04.070 00:23:04.080 oil filter and the AC line I'm probably
00:23:06.020 00:23:06.030 gonna do an oil filter relocation
00:23:08.120 00:23:08.130 sometime in the future so that way
00:23:09.919 00:23:09.929 they're not bumping up against each
00:23:11.030 00:23:11.040 other
00:23:11.470 00:23:11.480 now these fittings tightened hook it
00:23:14.330 00:23:14.340 down just need to go and tighten these
00:23:16.669 00:23:16.679 Center fitting here and while you're
00:23:23.510 00:23:23.520 tightening the center bolt and the
00:23:24.890 00:23:24.900 sandwich plate I would probably
00:23:25.880 00:23:25.890 recommend wedging something between the
00:23:27.560 00:23:27.570 oil lines and the crossmember back here
00:23:29.360 00:23:29.370 so that way the sandwich plate doesn't
00:23:31.159 00:23:31.169 move so your oil lines still have plenty
00:23:32.930 00:23:32.940 of clearance now the next step is going
00:23:35.900 00:23:35.910 to be to go ahead and fill up the car
00:23:37.549 00:23:37.559 with oil and then crank the engine to
00:23:39.320 00:23:39.330 make sure that we're not getting any
00:23:40.490 00:23:40.500 leaks
00:23:42.180 00:23:42.190 00:23:49.240 00:23:49.250 alright so the engine is now filled up
00:23:51.279 00:23:51.289 with oil it is currently sitting
00:23:52.630 00:23:52.640 directly between the low and high mark
00:23:54.279 00:23:54.289 which is probably not exactly where
00:23:56.470 00:23:56.480 you'll want it you'll want to be sitting
00:23:57.760 00:23:57.770 right at the high mark because when the
00:23:59.230 00:23:59.240 thermostatic plate decides to open up
00:24:01.270 00:24:01.280 it's going to drain some of that oil in
00:24:02.860 00:24:02.870 the lines and that's going to lower the
00:24:04.840 00:24:04.850 oil level so just make sure you fill it
00:24:06.549 00:24:06.559 up to the high mark now that the engine
00:24:08.350 00:24:08.360 is filled with oil we'll go ahead and
00:24:09.850 00:24:09.860 crank the engine and then check for
00:24:11.440 00:24:11.450 00:24:21.430 00:24:21.440 so as you guys saw it looks like we
00:24:23.590 00:24:23.600 don't have any leaks so we should be
00:24:25.240 00:24:25.250 pretty much good to go only problem is
00:24:26.740 00:24:26.750 we haven't tested the fittings that run
00:24:28.870 00:24:28.880 to the oil cooler those unfortunately
00:24:30.910 00:24:30.920 won't be able to see any oil until the
00:24:32.800 00:24:32.810 engine gets hot enough to be able to
00:24:34.630 00:24:34.640 open up that thermostatic plate but just
00:24:36.820 00:24:36.830 keep an eye on your guys it's a little
00:24:38.140 00:24:38.150 level as I said you do want to make sure
00:24:39.790 00:24:39.800 you fill it up to the high mark because
00:24:41.470 00:24:41.480 you will lose some of that when the oil
00:24:43.030 00:24:43.040 cooler lines start to feed oil to the
00:24:45.460 00:24:45.470 oil cooler but keep an eye on your oil
00:24:47.500 00:24:47.510 level when you guys are moving on also
00:24:49.480 00:24:49.490 make sure that anywhere where the lines
00:24:51.070 00:24:51.080 touch the body of the car you have some
00:24:52.630 00:24:52.640 sort of protective wrapping on it I
00:24:54.070 00:24:54.080 ended up is paying an additional $40 for
00:24:56.230 00:24:56.240 z1 to have that wrapped for me so my
00:24:58.270 00:24:58.280 lines are all protected now they
00:24:59.470 00:24:59.480 shouldn't see any fraying or damage from
00:25:01.360 00:25:01.370 touching the body but other than that
00:25:03.100 00:25:03.110 that's really all there is to installing
00:25:04.570 00:25:04.580 the oil cooler just make sure you keep
00:25:06.580 00:25:06.590 an eye on the oil level as I said if you
00:25:08.500 00:25:08.510 guys have any questions on the install
00:25:09.910 00:25:09.920 video leave a comment down below and
00:25:11.320 00:25:11.330 I'll make sure to get back to you at
00:25:12.790 00:25:12.800 this point all there is left to do is
00:25:14.590 00:25:14.600 reinstall all the things that we took
00:25:16.330 00:25:16.340 off the car here and then I've got quite
00:25:18.100 00:25:18.110 a lot of cleaning to do in the garage
00:25:19.540 00:25:19.550 right now but thank you guys for
00:25:21.400 00:25:21.410 watching and I will see you all in the
00:25:22.870 00:25:22.880 next video later
00:25:25.460 00:25:25.470 00:26:05.170 00:26:05.180 00:26:10.440 00:26:10.450
